Exchange agreements with other universities pave the way for well-managed exchange programmes for undergraduate studies. Luleå University of Technology cooperates with universities worldwide. We also take part in the EC programme, Socrates/ERASMUS, as well as ISEP (the International Student Exchange programme), which is American-based, and NORDPLUS within the Nordic countries.

Each year, there are about 200 exchange students at Luleå University of Technology.

To enable exchange students, interested in studying at Luleå University of Technology for one or two semesters, to fulfil their studies in the best possible way, we hold more than 200 courses in English. The courses available are mainly senior undergraduate (upper division) courses, and it should be noted that the courses are single-subject courses and do not combine to a final degree at Luleå University of Technology.

You thus become member of a regular teaching group together with the Swedish students, and you will all use English as a common language.

This opportunity is intended solely for students enrolled in a study programme and provided there is a reciprocal exchange agreement between the home university and Luleå University of Technology.

You can only apply as an exchange student through your home institution.

Two years of studies are required for all exchange students before attending LTU.

Application
The application procedures vary depending on whether the student is applying within a programme such as ERASMUS/NORDPLUS or an exchange agreement between the home university and Luleå University of Technology. In either case the applications must be submitted through the student exchange programme co-ordinator at the home university.

The student exchange co-ordinator should note that students will only be accepted on condition of a prior contact with the International Office at Luleå University of Technology.

When applying to Luleå University of Technology through an exchange programme, we recommend that you use the ECTS Student Application Form with its attachment Learning Agreement. If you do not have the forms, you can download them from the menu on the right. The institutional co-ordinator at your home university should then send the full application to the appropriate co-ordinator in Luleå.

It must be noted, that only students enrolled at other universities willing to admit Luleå University of Technology's students on a tuition free basis can be accepted by Luleå University of Technology.

The Swedish academic year comprises two semesters and runs from the beginning of September to late December and the beginning of January to the beginning of June (does not include orientation).

Admission
Exchange students will be sent a 'Letter of Acceptance' upon receipt of original documents. You will be assigned an academic advisor by the time you receive a letter of acceptance. Course choices are to finalised immediately after admittance to the university is granted. Your academic advisor the pre-registers you for the courses.
