The preserving organization

Digital preservation is more than technology. Organizations must create an organizational framework that supports them in working with long-term digital preservation. This should include procedures, processes, activities and functions that needs to be done so digital material can continue to exist.

Moreover - with collaboration great benefits are won. No organization succeds alone and isolated with its own solution, and enviroment needs to be scanned on-going. This should be balanced with the fact that since media landscape is developed at such a pace that it does, the activity can not be regulated in a static manner. Flexibility is therefore required.

Clarity is also needed on questions of policy and strategies, and to clarify the entire organization so that organizational interdependencies are well known. In other words, the organization needs to create a holistic approach to long-term digital preservation.
