Process mineralogy

A characterising of the ore minerals due to mineralogical,
chemical and textural properties in Malmberget.

Project description

The project is located to LKAB’s mine in Malmberget, situated 5km NW of Gällivare.
Drill cores of the future main ore body Fabian has been logged and analyzed.

This study will mainly be focused in the ore mineralogy, a characterizing with respect to texture-mineralogy-chemistry and liberation size to distinguish ore qualities.

Further on the project will increase by a selection of more ore bodies and also try to find whether these parameters can be used to influence the product quality.

Analyze methods that has been used is whole rock geochemical analyses, optical microscopy, microprobe and SEM based system, Particle texture analysis (PTA).

The aim

The aim of this project is to obtain detailed knowledge of the process mineralogy of the ore. Based on this, predictions of the dressing result and product quality (pellets, molten steel) can be made for respective ore body. Even to do a prediction and identification of appropriate special products of iron-oxide. The results and increased knowledge will be used for the dressing plant through distinguishing different qualities during the concentration process.
