Baldos News

The Baldos II is the most fuel-efficient vehicle allowed for street–use in Sweden, ever. During a test-run in January 2010 it travelled the equivalent of 152.2 kilometers on one single liter of gasoline, which is about five times the distance of the most fuel-efficient cars sold in Sweden today. For more information please continue to the page above.

Post-graduate Education

Working as a post-graduate student is challenging, and puts the ability to solve problems both in detail and to see the big picture to test. You will gain experience in both theoretical work and practice and you often work in research projects in collaboration with industry. Often there are also some departmental duties such as undergraduate teaching.

Presentation of Magnus Holm EISLAB

The Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering introduces Magnus Holm, PhD student in Industrial Electronics. Magnus has a M.Sc. degree in Engineering Physics and a Licentiate in Engineering degree in Solid State Physics from Lund University. After graduating in April 2003, Magnus has spent a number of years in the private sector, mostly within IT/Telecom, and now returns to university.

His research is about investigating the correlation between software design and electromagnetic compatibility in embedded systems. Timing of events in the real-time system is of special importance. The goal is to integrate existing tools (Timber, hardware models, PEEC) in order to allow for a simulation of the whole path from software to electromagnetic fields, such that a design paradigm can be developed and unwanted electromagnetic effects avoided. This technology is relevant for the automotive industry, as well as many other areas where embedded systems are utilized.

Educational scholarships 2009

Systemtekniks stipendier för "Uppvisande av Mycket Goda Studieresultat och Särskilt Engagemang för Luleå Tekniska Universitet" utdelas till Ida Bergström och Jonas Jonsson.

Joakm Öman
Introducing Joakim Öman EISLAB

The department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering would like to introduce Joakim Öman who is here as a PhD student in Industrial Electronics. Joakim graduated 2006 as a M.Sc. in Space Engineering here at the University and is now back from industry to start his research career in the field of Electronic Production Technology.

In short the research goal is to optimise PCB production for small and medium size production series. The main focus is to investigate and model the thermal system that exists between PCB and soldering oven. The model will then be used to provide better configuration parameters for the production line. An accurate model will not only increase soldering quality and decrease PCB rejection but might also be a tool to find discrepancies already in the PCB design.

The project is a part of ESiS.

Introducing Dr. Suxing Liu

The department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering introduces Dr. Suxing Liu who will stay at LTU for a year doing research on electromagnetic modeling.

Dr. Liu recently got his PhD from the School of Communication and Information Engineering, Shanghai University, China.

His research interest is mainly focuses on 3D video processing, 3D display and 3D systems. He is proficient in 3D/Stereo/Multi-view video processing (including capturing and display). In addition, his research field also involve computer vision, like edge-based segmentation, template matching and object trace tracking. Dr. Liu will be working with 3D visualization of EM models and meshing algorithms as PostDoc for the coming year.

You find Dr. Liu in A2210.

Teacher of the Year 2009 at LTU

Teknik-SM

Mycket bra gjort! Vann gjorde laget "Bättre sent än aldrig" från Lunds tekniska högskola och tre blev laget "Poissons fläck" från Chalmers tekniska högskola.

Delayed congratulations

The grant is of great importance for the further development and progress of the research area.

One of the main subjects of the biomedical engineering team at Luleå university of technology is to develop sensors that combine light and sound based techniques. The goal is to simultaneously register different parameters that are vital for reliable diagnosis and treatment of diseases, and cancer in particular. The sound based resonance-sensor technique is capable of detecting minute density alterations in cancer tissue. The light based Raman-technique, on the other hand, registers the molecular composition of cancer tissue that differs from healthy tissue. The combination of the two techniques leads hopefully to a more reliable and easy to handle diagnosis. The Kempe foundation has now granted financial support for the purchase of a portable Raman-setup that consists of a laser, a spectrometer and a fiber-optical probe-head.

Congratulations Johan Carlson!

Associate Professor Johan Carlson at EISLAB has been awarded the "2006 young researcher award" from the Royal Skyttean Society.

SSETI
Student Space Education and Technology Initiative - SSETI

The Rad/OBDH Node team is a group of students at Luleå University of Technology. We belong to an association called SSETI (Student Space Education and Technology Initiative) which is supported by ESA (European Space Agency). We are at the moment building two subsystems for a satellite supposed to orbit the Earth.

One subsystem is the RadFET payload supposed to measure radiation within the satellite. The other subsystem is OBDH Node supposed to be a datahandling node for data exchange between some subsystems in the satelllite. We also aim for joining the upcoming student mission to the moon also arranged by SSETI.
