English language requirements

Applicants must have documented skills in English corresponding to the level of English in Swedish upper secondary education (English B).

For applicants who have not studied in Swedish upper secondary education, skills in English are normally attested to by means of an international language test. 

 LANGUAGE TESTS IN ENGLISH

TOEFL
 (Test must be sent directly from ETS-centre. Examinee score is not accepted)
Paper-based: Score of 4.5 (scale 1-6) in written test and a total score of 575
Internet-based: Score of 20 (scale 0-30) in written test and a total score of 90
IELTS Minimum score of 6,5, no band lower than 5,5
Cambridge ESOL Certificate of Proficiency in English
CPE or Certificate in Advanced English/CAE
Diploma of English Studies

EXEMPTIONS

The following applicants may be exempted from submitting formal test evidence:

  • Students with a Bachelor's degree from a university where English is the only language of instruction, in accordance with the recommendations in the edition of the International Handbook of Universities that was current the year the degree was awarded. 
     
  • Students with a Bachelor's degree (equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen) where English is the main subject.
     
  • Students with a Bachelor's degree (equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen) in Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Applications, Medicine, Pharmacy, Science or Technology from India or Pakistan. 
     
  • Students with 30 higher education (HE) credits from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland where the language of instruction of the course is English. The language of instruction must be clearly stated on official documents.
     
  • Students with 30 higher education (HE) credits from Great Britain, Ireland, Malta, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, or English speaking parts of Canada. The language of instruction must be clearly stated on official documents.  
     
  • Turkish students who have studied a 1 year preparatory class in English at a university. The class must be listed on the transcript and the student must have received a passing grade.

  • Students with a formal transcript or degree certificate where it is clearly stated that the language of instruction was English.

Other documentation of language of instruction will not be accepted.
