Education at LTU: Master in Engineering Design
You went out a five-year Master of Science degree in Industrial Design in June -10. What are you doing today?
Right now I run my own business create Design (www.skapadesign.com) with headquarters in Lulea and premises in Stockholm where I work with product and graphic design. The firm was founded a year ago and we have customers in Sweden and abroad.
Have you benefited from your training in the job you have today?
Definitely, the training was a prerequisite for me to be able to run their own business. Through education, I got the tools to be able to work in the industry, then I alone had to learn what it's like to run a business. It was during a lecture arranged by the institution in which two alumni talked about how they started their own idea as to design and create their own company grew.
How do you think of study have been?
I'm extremely happy with my studies. It lasted six years and began with a technical base. At first it was not plan to stay in the catalog but because I liked it right from the start so good I stayed. In addition to the studies involved myself in Lule spex for five years. Years in the catalog has really flown by and I would probably have remained but for the firm's ability to expand was a move necessary.
You were awarded the Red Dot Design Award for your ex-job where you together with Jens Kallin designed Braille Box, a Braille printer for the blind and visually impaired, what has happened since then?
So far, it has meant a lot of attention in the media and from friends and acquaintances who had seen us on TV and read online and in newspapers. This summer, during the ceremony, I look forward to exciting encounters with other creators. Forward autumn, I hope to more concrete projects with new partners.
Looking back, is there anything you would like to say to an aspiring Industrial Design Engineering student who may want to think about for future studies?
My tip is that from the beginning be sure to save all the materials you create during the course of a portfolio. Otherwise you have nothing to show to the next assignment or employers.
How do you see the future?
My plan is to develop the Create Design to become an agency of 5-10 people within ten years. I'm passionate about sustainable design, not only environmentally but also in response to throwaway society. I want to create products of durable materials that will last for 50 instead of 5 years.
Within the next few years are no plans to recruit, instead takes place in close collaboration with other creators. Right now, I share the room with Joel Torstensson, another alumnus of the university. During 2012 I plan to take in students for the Ex-work projects. Then I want to give students a chance to work professionally.
