Course Aim

After the studies are completed the students will be abel to:

  • Explain the importance of Knowledge Management in an organization
  • Explain central concepts and relations in the field of Knowledge Management
  • Describe operative work with organizational knowledge and have experience about how knowledge is created, spread and used in an organization

Contents
The course starts by defining central concepts and relations. It continues with discussions about knowledge, how to gain knowledge and whether all knowledge can be made visible. During the course Knowledge Management as a tool for information management and for strategic management will be considered. Knowledge Management concerns understanding and management of the process in which new knowledge is created, how it is spread and used in the best way within and between organisations. The use of IT in Knowledge Management is also discussed.

Realization
Distance tuition (Internet) with no mandatory meetings . IT support: Learning management system (Fronter), e-mail, video conference and phone. Knowledge is shared and created within the course through virtual meetings withThe course contains a number of compulsory exercises and web-based discussions. Some exercises are individual and with some exercises the students work together and report by group.

Examination
The course contains a number of compulsory assignments and web-based discussions.

Remarks
Technical requirements: PC with Internet connection.

Transition terms
This course cannot be combined with IED347 Knowledge Management in any degree.
