Specific entry

Basic skills in building information modelling, preferable in Revit Architecture or Revit Structure. Basic skills in understanding drawings, knowledge of the building process and the role of building design.


Course Aim
After completing the course the student should be able to deliver correctly formatted drawings following the rules set by the Swedish standard Bygghandlingar 90. Furthermore, technical descriptions of the building using AMA is covered.

After completing the course, the student should be able to:
- Model building objects in 3D
- Read and understand construction drawings
- Produce construction drawings with the appropriate level of detail
- Annotate construction drawings
- Reflect upon own work using proper references to literature

After completing the course, the student shall understand:
- The building design process and how it interacts with the building process
- The role of building information modeling in construction
- How virtual models are quality audited with each other
- How import and export between software for building information modeling works

Contents
The course will cover building information modelling in the later stage of building design process i.e. from 3D-model to generation of 2D-drawings. The role of the drawing and how to construct it to serve the contractors is stressed in the course.

Realization
The course is split in two stages. During the first stage, four individual assignments are completed covering the understanding of drawings, 3D-modeling of structures, generation of 2D-drawings, and quantity take-off from models.
During the second stage a project assignment is completed. Students work in groups of 3, drafting one storey in a multi-storey building. The project is based upon an existing building and students are given the bottom and top floors as initial data. Students are to deliver a 3D-model, two construction drawings and a quantity take-off report.
Lectures support the work during the first stage (lectures are given in Swedish). During the second stage, tutoring in computer rooms is organized.

Examination
Four individual assignments and one project work. The individual assignments are given 10 course credits each (40%), the project work 60 course credits (60%). The final grade is based on the course credits earned during the course.
