
General entry requirements, second cycle
A Bachelor´s degree with a minimum of 180 ECTS with at least 60 ECTS in the area of computer science, systems science, information technology or a closely related area. The degree must include a final thesis of 15 ECTS.
Applicants must have documented skills in English corresponding to the level of English in Swedish upper secondary education (English B). Proven language proficiency in English, can for example be shown by an international English test as TOEFL or IELTS. Some specified university studies can also be equivalent. During the first year of your studies important concepts within the area will be defined, for example information security, safety, critical systems, information classification, and risk analysis. Other important issues are techniques to transfer information between users in business and how transferring can be made in a secure way. You also gain knowledge of professions and roles from a security perspective, important standards used and research within the area. The first year is completed by project work in a company or an public authority. The function of cooperation and collaboration and the system for decision making are important when working with security. Therefore, during the second year you learn about information security management and Internet security. Parallel to this, you can choose between various courses focused on technologies or management. The thesis is also written during this last year.
The number of networks and databases are increasing and at the same time new global information systems are used. The security aspects have become more and more important and complicated. Within the area of marketing, sales and services using the Internet new systems dealing with security issues will be needed. The development of E-services when authorities and citizens communicate over the Internet requires that the authentication systems are safe: New systems must be developed. Examples of working options: Information Security Manager or Information Security Engineer.
You can study this program on campus or by distance. A web-based learning management system and a free video conference program are used. You must have access to a PC-computer with a headset (a web camera is optional) and permission to install software. An Internet connection (minimum 64 Kbps) is required.
