Degree project gave prestige price
Annica Doms, a former student in Industrial Design Engineering at LTU, is the winner of the world famous design competition Red dot design award: product design 2012. The product Kite has been developed in cooperation with the company TreCe and is a trashcan for recycling.
This year there was 4 515 entries from 58 nations. Red dot design award is one of the world's most prestigious design awards. It is an award only given to creative, innovative and high quality products.
– It is a great recognition to be awarded a Red dot so early in my career, says Annica Doms in a press release from TreCe.
Her interest in design in public places was born after an internship abroad on an architect's office in Düsseldorf. That experience became the basis for her thesis. Annica Doms began to actively seek out companies that worked on products in the field.
– It was also important for me to get the guidance I needed, that the company has Swedish manufacturing and of course, an exciting task.
She chose a company from Norrköping
TreCe which is one of the leading suppliers of office storage, fit her criterias.
– The company had a clear idea of what they were looking for. They wanted a complement their existing furniture. The product would be suited for sorting in smaller volumes and fewer parts. From there, I was free to develop my own solution. That the company has had great trust in me and my work has meant a lot to the result, says Annica Doms.
Kite is designed for recycling sorting in public places and offices. The trashcan brings esthetics to the room and is flexible. It starts from a basic module and can be customized as needed. Materials and finishes have been selected with care. The trashcan should be easy to clean and resist wearing. It also has a design that makes it easy to use. The product is simply designed to hold in the long run - and promote sustainable development.
What inspired you in your work?
– Architecture, geometry and patterns. I wanted to do a piece of furniture that supports creativity, something to adapt and change. Through studies at LTU, I've learned to always put the user in mind. There is a lesson which, among other things has given rise to the various inlets, says Annica Doms.
