Speech from high level and a giant cake inaugurated LTU 40 years

Lots of students, staff and guests had the opportunity to eat good cake, hear thought-provoking speeches from the roof of the A-house, accompanied by percussion and trumpets. So one can summarize the start of the autumn:s 40th anniversary at Luleå University of Technology. The opening ceremony was the prelude to a series of activities during the autumn which ends at the academic ceremony in November

- We are proud on pretty much everything, short to say on the LTU, said Johan Sterte Vicechancellor at Luleå University of Technology and he was delivering, of course, a number of concrete examples on that. And so he inaugurated the 40th anniversary of the University, accompanied by trumpets and rockets.

The duo Evolution Percussion

Before that duo "Evelution Percussion" drummed into Dave Hollindens composition "Surface tention" with precision and intensity. A duo consisting of Maria Finkelmeier, drum teacher and Jake Remington master's student in percussion at the School of music, which is part of the LTU. It was actually not just percussion, trumpets and a giant cake that crowned the inauguration of the LTU's 40 anniversary.

All invitees were also able to hear speeches from high level by LTU's Vicechancellor Johan Sterte and Luleå Mayor Karl Petersen.

- Luleå University of Technology is undoubtedly Norrbotten's main brand. Without LTU, we had been a much poorer part of the country, said the Mayor.

He thought he could sense that his predecessor Nils Malmgren, who was Mayor when Lulea Higher Education Unit started 40 years ago, would smile in his heaven on a day like this. Finally Karl Petersen delivered greetings from himself and Norrbotten County Governor with almost a thunderous nature

Vicechancellor John Sterte had read Wikipedia and found out that there where very nice words on LTU, and he stated that the cause of the university's success rests on the pioneering spirit, political support and innovation, also the creation of attractive programs and an active student life supported by student unions.

The chorus "Snaps Academy ", with singing teacher Ida Persson as its conductor, squeezed in with" Happy Birthday ". Then it was time for the 160 meter long cake that was laid out along "Regnbågsallén", a cake that during the morning hours engaged many of LTU's staff.

Several different categories of staff and some students could be seen engaged in helping to bring order to the delivered cake pieces. It was necessary to run the steel baskets with cakes gently over the bumpy surface on Regnbågsallén, which Åsa Liinanki and Ulrika Beritdotter from the LTU Student Services handled with verve.

Karin Jonsson, project manager with her tongue right in the mouth

After some delays in deliveries of tables, the cake was carefully arranged with the help of shovels and shears. Karin Jonsson who are LTU's project manager for the 40 th anniversary was deeply committed and concentrated. Around the long table coffee eager students, staff and guests where gathered.

The cake does not hit the Turkish Guiness length record from the resort of Antalya in just over 2, 5 kilometers, but with its 160 feet keeps it well in national comparisons.

Elisabeth Johnsson was first employed at Lulea Higher education unit

One of those who enjoyed the cake and get-together was Elisabeth Johnsson, the first employee of the Luleå Higher education unit, along with Rune Andersson (known industrialist). When the education unit started forty years ago they met on the stairs of Köpmangatan 6 where it all began, says Elisabeth

- 40 years of my life I've been here and that says quite a bit, I have not opted out of it. Think about all the interesting people I have meet here, she says thinking back.

The morning cake preparation of the cake were also seen from the sky-high level
