MFS - Minor Field Studies

Students at colleges and universities who have sought and been granted MFS scholarship can be in place in a developing country gather material for his thesis or his thesis for a bachelor's, master's or master's degree.

The recipient of the MFS scholarship for at least eight weeks to study issues of importance to developing countries' economic, social, political or knowledge development.

The scholarship is set at SEK 25 000 per student and is a contribution that is not intended to cover all expenses. It normally needs to be complemented by, for example, student aid.

Current host countries are those of the OECD are considered developing countries. A full list is available on International Programme Office website. 
 

Supervisor during the study

To qualify for the MFS scholarship, students must have a supervisor in Sweden and a contact person in the host country. The supervisor in Sweden to help with the academic and professional work. The contact person in the country is an on-site support (including practical arrangements and contacts). This contact may be linked to a university, an NGO or for example, a page or UN-funded project.

Application

Applications must be written in English and include the following:

  1. A cover letter with the presentation of the applicant.
  2. Project description of the planned survey indicating instructor in Sweden for the thesis / dissertation.
  3. Transcript. The student should be the outward journey taking a minimum of 150 credits. It is clear from the application when the applicant plans to courses that any are missing, have been completed. It also requires good knowledge of English. If the host country's official language is French, Spanish or Portuguese, applicants have studied the language in high schools, or have equivalent knowledge.

 

The project description should include:

  • Selection of the country (see valid countries in www.programkontoret.se )
  • Schedule of the field work of at least eight weeks in the host country
  • Purpose and description of the substance to have a clear connection and to development, and to / the courses the applicant is studying.
  • Information on tutors in Sweden and the contact person in host country / organization.
  • Method
  • Draft alternative approach that presents the most critical part of the planned field study and how the applicant intends to handle this.
  • Provisional budget.
  • Provisional date for the preparation course. Consideration must be given to the notification period. See www.mfs.nu .

Indicative budget

The application should include a preliminary budget will be as follows:

• Use of the cheapest means of travel to and from the country where the study will be implemented

• Part of the cost of living (50 per cent of overseas subsistence allowance), read more on the Tax Agency website

• Any necessary travel within the country / region

• Vaccinations.

• Insurance (students at state universities could be insured through the Administrative Services Agency)

• Any costs for equipment

• Printing of MFS essay (maximum of 10 copies)

Preparation Course

Anyone Grantees participating in a mandatory preparatory course. The course lasts two days and deals with development cooperation, cultural matters, health, safety and country information.

Preparation course will be located at Side Partnership Forum's conference center in Härnösand. Course organizer replaces the student's travel from campus to Härnösand return. Information and necessary forms for the student's notification system.
