For receiving 1,5 hp you have to take active part in lessons and hand in the exam which will be assessed and commented  by us. You will then receive a diploma which grants you the points from your research supervisor.

Aims and objectives

  • To understand the significance of Information literacy and its application to your research
  • To enable you to update your current Information literacy skills

Outcomes

  • Be aquainted with existing ways of communicating and publishing research
  • Know how to evaluate journals and articles by using basic bibliometric methods for measuring and ranking impact and quality
  • Be able to retrieve scholarly information by using accessible information resources for research purposes.
  • Develop effective approaches to keep up to date with the latest research in your area.
  • Identify basic legal and ethical aspects on scientific research and publishing.
  • Be able to use a bibliographic reference management software (RefWorks) for research purposes.
  • Be able to use Word, Polopoly  and other ICT services for research and publishing

Agenda:

Day 1:

Scientific publication, finding monographs printed and e-published, journals, interlibrary loans, PRIMO, hands-on.

Day 2:

Articles and publishing. Presentation and evaluation of searchtools, datanases and subject guides. Publication database PuRe. Researcher-ID. open Access. Hands-on.

Day 3:

Bibliometry, choice of Journals for publishing,SHERPA and  legal aspects, RefWorks. Hands-on.

Workshop with ICT-instructor for presentation or support concerning relevant programs for research
