Barbro Marklund-Petersone works as a Professor of Singing at The Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo and at The Latvian National Opera in Riga. She teaches also students at The Opera Academies in Oslo and in Stockholm. Private students travel from many parts of the world to work with her, Japan, USA, Canada, Switzerland, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Belgium, Russia, Ukraina, China, Romania, all Scandinavia, etc.
In December 2006 Marklund-Petersone was appointed Honorary Professor by The Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music in Riga.
She is a sought-after guest-teacher, concert singer, jury-member, examiner, lecturer, chairman of competitions, and she leads about ten masterclasses per year in different countries. Marklund-Petersone has had engagements in countries like Albania, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Gran Canaria, Great Britain, Latvia, Malaysia, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden and South Africa.
Her repertoire consists of songs for recitals, Lieder, chamber music, song cycles and other pieces for orchestra, oratorios, masses, requiem, opera-arias, religious songs, ensemble-repertoire and world premières of contemporary music. She has specialized on repertoire, and is regularly used as an expert advicer in various associations.
Marklund-Petersone has been engaged as a soloist with Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Estonia Symphony Orchestra, Guildford Philharmonic Orchestra (London), Gävleborg Symphony Orchestra, Umeå Sinfonietta, Estonian Baroque Strings, Stora Teaterns Orkester (Gothenburg), North Kalotte Symphony Orchestra, Stockholm Youth Symphony Orchestra, Oslo Symphony Orchestra, Norrbotten Chamber Orchestra, Barrat Due Baroque Strings, Ensemble BIT20, and many other chamber orchestras, ensembles, Music Associations and Regional musicians.
Conductors she has got engagements with is for example Neeme Järvi, Nicholas Cleobury, Peeter Lilje, András Mihály, Richard Cooke, Mika Eichenholz, Simon Streatfield, Robin Page, Kurt Lewin, Cecilia Rydinger-Alin, Vladimir Matej, Rolf Ericzon, Tomas Rimul, Ole Kristian Ruud, Viesturs Gailis and many more.
Marklund-Petersone has for many years been an International Co-ordinator for The Norwegian Voice Teachers Association (NSPF) and is currently the Scandinavian Co-ordinator for The Latvian Association for Voice Teachers (LATS). She works as a Vocal Consultant, Vocal Teacher and Casting Director for some Scandinavian Opera projects and as a Project leader and Producer for concert-series.
Between 1990 - 1993 she was a Managing Director for Piteå Music Festival and a Director for Piteå International Summer Academies. 2000 – 2005 she was a board member of Oslo International Church Music Festival, and 2002 – 2004 she was the Vice President and International Co-ordinator of European Voice Teachers Association, EVTA. More than 120 of her students have been awarded in 54 prestigious competitions in different countries, for example Hans Gabor Belwedere Song Competition, Wagner Voices of Bayreuth, Cardiff Singers of the World, Queen Sonja International Music Competition, Johann Sebastian Bach Competition, Jenny Lind-stipendiet, Yamaha Prize, Classic Festival Ruhr European Contest, “Best Contestant” in Grieg Prize, Christina Nilsson-stipendiet, RWE-DEAs Culture Prize, Pentti Koskinen Competition, Spezialpreis Theater-Academie Wien, Svenska Richard Wagner-stiftelsens stipendium, "Best Contestant" in Concours Musica Antiqua, Ingrid Bjoner Prize, Ruud-Wallenberg Prize, Musikaliska Akademiens Stipendium, Musikaliska Akademiens Barockstipendium, Malmö Vocal Competition, INTROklassisk, Prince Eugenes Kulturpris etc.
Engagements during 2010 will be concerts in Gran Canaria, Norway, Sweden and Finland, and master classes in Norway, Sweden, Hannover, Riga and Vienna.
