Dance all the way across the Atlantic ocean

Ninnie Andersson is a graduate student who, after she through Luleå University read portions of her education at Dance New Amsterdam (DNA) in New York, has found the technique she uses in teaching the dance teacher.

At Luleå University campus Piteå, you can find Sweden's first danceteachereducation. Such a teacher is Ninnie Andersson, who has been dancing since she was a little girl.

- When I first arrived I was a little hesitant, but soon I was hooked and I came up with the idea that I wanted to go to New York and the School Dance New Amsterdam (DNA) to further broaden my skills.

Cooperation and Philosophy

The year was 2003, when Ninnie says she pretty quickly tried to get a collaboration between the education she studied at Luleå University and Dance New Amsterdam (DNA) in New York. Through collaboration with the dean, department head, program director, lecturer in dance at school and even university's lawyers she could get the dance school's educational level and standard certified and Ninnie could travel across the Atlantic to study specific didactics that DNA offers

- I have learned a technique that is based on the body's anatomical conditions, for example, the first 10 minutes of the lesson is always the same and lesson content follows a fixed structure and didactics to minimize the risk of injury, says Ninnie

Students can cross the Atlantic.

Now it is possible for the danceteacher student  to choose a course at DNA in New York for one or two terms.

- There is huge interest. The combination of the expertise we have on campus Piteå with the teachers here and the international cooperation which will meet dancing in another country at a high level is amazing.

Since Ninnie paved the way to the school have about twenty students followed her path and she believes that cooperation is good for students who want to combine their teachereducation with the experience of dancing abroad

- We offer a broad education that allows you to get many, many different styles and a mindset about dancing lessons, which I fully agree, concludes Ninnie Andersson.

Ninnie Anderson is now a doctoral student in dance and learning, and are in their teaching of future teachers an ardent ambassador for the technology.

- I had a back injury from the previous dance training when I first came to Dance New Amsterdam, but with the help of teaching and teachers, where I managed to find a totally different technique, placement, and even creative gift that made my injury heal. Much thanks to my mentor Katiti King, that I learned a lot from.
