Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering

Humanity faces enormous challenges in the areas of energy, raw materials, environment, water and security. CENE is focused on meeting the majority of these challenges through research, education and innovation to contribute to the development of a sustainable society.

Mining, construction and environmental research is gathered at the department. The Department has an exclusive and successful collaboration with industry and the public sector, including visibility by about 70% of our research is externally funded.

Our department is characterized by a strong experimental and applied profile with many laboratories used both for research and education. We also have a well developed international cooperation with countries in all continents.

We are about 350 people, including approximately 200 PhD students and 50 professors, and some 50 nationalities. You will find us in C-and F-houses on campus in Luleå
