Research funding

Luleå University of Technology has a high proportion external research funding. In 2010 the proportion of external research funding increased to 62 percent, compared to 61 percent the previous year.

External revenues to research increased with 66 million SEK between 2008 and 2009 and with an additional 70 million SEK 2010. The total amount of external research funding is now 501 million SEK, and the university has thereby exceeded the 500 million SEK limit that for a long time has been a long-term high objective. During 2010 the commission research amounted to 101 million SEK, which is the same volume as the previous year.

Major investment in renewable energy

First half of 2013 will be the foundation for a major initiative of the Luleå University of Technology (LTU) in renewable energy supported by funding from the Swedish Energy Agency. Phase 2 is scheduled for another 2.5 years and efforts are broad research on "green fuels". With this as the basic planning the university will generate projects for a total of just over a quarter of a billion (SEK).

Breakthrough in research on super filter for biofuels

A new important step has been taken by researchers at Luleå University of Technology when it comes to clean synthesis gas from carbon dioxide, using zeolite membranes. This super filter, which could enable the cost-effective industrial production of biofuels, has been shown to have very small defects.The discovery may lead to that the effectiveness of the filter now hopefully now hopefully can increase significantly.
