Nomination to the PhD Student Association Board

It is now time to nominate candidates to the PhD Student Association Board and its subdivisions for the electoral period 2013/14. The Association is very important as it represents all PhD students on LTU at different boards and committees, for instance the University Board, Faculty Board, and Department Steering Groups. The Association also works closely with other organizations at the university and also arranges social activities.

Now You have the chance to be a part of this and make your voice heard. You need to understand both written and spoken Swedish in order to be eligible as a representative to some of the university boards and committees, but there are some positions where English is sufficient.

You can nominate both yourself as others and the nomination must be sent to the Election committee by Friday, 1 March. Send your nomination to: roine.wiklund@ltu.se

The annual meeting of the PhD student association, 2013

The annual meeting of the PhD student association will be held in week 15 (in the beginning of April). Invitations will be sent out by e-mail.

At the annual meeting, the annual report of the board will be presented, and elections for positions within the association will be conducted.

The meeting will be combined with a social activity event.

Comments about the new ISP template

Now the "new" Individual Studyplan (ISP) should be used by everyone that has to use it.

Because there is a group at LTU working continuously to improve and adapt the ISP, you are all very welcome to contribute with suggestions on how the ISP can be improved.

Whenever you come up with a suggestion regarding the template of the ISP send a mail to wiebke.reim@ltu.se in order to collect all your opinions and to present them in the group working on the ISP. The group will have its next meeting after the summer.

PhD student carrier day on April 16th

A PhD student carrier day is planned in Luleå for April 16th. More information will be distributed by e-mail.

Best PhD Supervisor 2012

Roger Johnson from the Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural resources engineering have been awarded the prize as the year's supervisor. The price is SEK 10 000 and aims to reward distinguished instructors in postgraduate education and it is students who nominated their supervisors.

Nominate your supervisor!

Does your supervisor deserve recognition for his or her good work as a supervisor?

Now is the time to nominate your supervisor for the award ”Teknologkårens pris för berömvärda handledarinsatser i forskarutbildningen” (“The student union’s prize for outstanding efforts in the supervision of doctoral students”), which will be presented at the Academic ceremony in November.

The nomination must be in written form and contain the following:

· The name of the nominated supervisor and the research subject the supervisor represents.
· A clear motivation showing the nominated supervisor’s engagement in research education. For example: Why does this supervisor deserve the award? What has he or she done that shows their engagement for their PhD students in particular and research education in general? What makes this supervisor stand out from the crowd?
· Contact details to the PhD student nominating the supervisor. If you nominate a supervisor as a group, include contact details to at least one of the nominating PhD students.


The nomination should be sent to ko@teknologkaren.se by 12th October 2012 at the latest.


Background:
In order to encourage and stimulate high quality supervision of PhD students, the student union together with the PhD student association established the prize “Teknologkårens pris för berömvärda handledarinsatser i forskarutbildningen” (“The student union’s prize for outstanding efforts in the supervision of doctoral students”). As a PhD student at LTU, you now have the opportunity to nominate your supervisor. The prize will be awarded at the Academic ceremony in November. The winner will be selected by a jury consisting of the chairman of the student union and PhD students appointed by the PhD students’ board.

Report from annual meeting on April 28

The annual meeting took place on April 28, 2010, in Boden at Western Farm.

More than 40 PhD students attended, which is a new record!

After bus transportation from Teknikens Hus, the formal annunal meeting started. The meeting decided to:
- approve the annual report
- approve the proposed changes to the section's statutes
- elect delegates according to the proposition made by the election committee
- approve the "Doctorand manifest" according to the proposal made by the board

Then dinner took place and some nice competitions in the Western Farm environment.
