About defocused speckles

The aim with this research project is to develop measurement methods based on laser speckle metrology for application on transparent media as gases and flames. When laser light is incident on a diffuse surface and scattered from it to a detector, a granular pattern, a so called speckle pattern is seen in the image. Even the phase in the speckle pattern may be detected by use of reference light that interferes with the object light on the detector. If a transparent object is placed between the detector and the laser light illuminated surface, the speckle pattern is changed, the speckles are displaced and phase changes are registered in the speckle pattern.

Optical measurement technology for verification of product data- OPTIPRO

OPTIPRO is a project that wants to find a simple and adaptable method to be able to control the shape and quality of industrial products. The project is divided into two parts, one focusing on optical measurements in the industrial environment and the other focusing on numerical analysis and system engineering.

Projected fringes and speckle reduction

When fringes are projected on an object their appearance, as seen from an angle, will change according to the shape of the object. The shape of the object can then be calculated from the phase of the disturbed fringe pattern.

Pulsed laser ablation studied using digital holographic interferometry

Laser ablation is the process of removing material from a solid (or occasionally liquid) surface by irradiating it with a laser beam. It has a lot of applications including modification of the physical or chemical microstructure of materials, microhole drilling, art conservation and thin film deposition. We use pulsed digital holographic interferometry to investigate the plume and the shock wave generated in the laser ablation process on different targets under atmospheric air pressure.

About estimation of road surface roughness

To be able to enhance and test vehicle applications like for example anti-lock braking system (ABS) and traction control system (TCS) there is an interest in characterizing winter road conditions in terms of surface material and structure. In this project an optical method is used to make these characterizations.
