Ylva Backman is included in an interdisciplinary research group with funding from the Research Council to conduct a research project. The project is called "School sucks" ... right? and are studying how children and young people's experiences of psychosocial health in their learning environment.

- There is much that is interesting, but something that caught me is that students really emphasizes both the social and physical school environment on learning and that "school" for them is more than just the classroom. They write about how even the outdoor environment, field trips and outdoor events affects their social relationships, their ability to learn and also how they feel, says Ylva.

The main subject of study is education and it contains among other things, written reflective narratives and interviews with 200 students in grades 5-9 in which had to describe their positive images of school and learning, but also how they would like the school to be if they themselves could decide.

- I also looked at the ethical aspects of students' reasoning. How do the students feel that they should behave and be with each other, says Ylva
