Space Technology

Research of the subject Space Technology at Luleå University of Technology focuses on discoveries in area of atmospheric and climate science.

The research center for Space Technology is placed in Kiruna, the Space capital of Sweden. The town is located on the 67th parallel north, 50 km above the polar circle, which enables a set of unique conditions for studying atmospheric science.

The research focus is mainly:

  • Development of space instruments and other space projects.
  • Analysis of data from space instruments.
  • Research using data from space instruments, in particular research in atmospheric science and climate science.
  • Fundamental research for new space instruments and space projects, such as computer modeling of Earth's atmosphere, climate and radiative transfer.

Research is conducted in collaboration with the Institute for Space Physics (IRF), European Space and Sounding Rocket Range (Esrange) and European Incoherent Scatter scientific association (Eiscat).
