The governance approach, and a general interest in exploring the relationship between network structure, organizing processes and policy outcome, is characteristics for her work. Annica is foremost working within the area of natural resource governance and previous research involves, for example, studies of local fishery management, searching for the defining features of adaptive co-management systems.

Her current research projects deal with the challenges of adaptive management in biodiversity conservation (BaltGene), beliefs and coalitions in carnivore management (Institutioner för en legitim rovdjursförvaltning), and with the role of public network management in processes of large scale investments in renewable energy (Investeringar i förnybar energi och regional utveckling). Her teaching experience includes both teaching and supervising on undergraduate and postgraduate levels, giving courses in policy analysis and lectures on how to apply social network analysis in case study research.

Annica Sandström is a post doctoral researcher at Stockholm Resilience Centre, where she is part of a research team working with ecosystem based and integrated coastal zone management (http://www.stockholmresilience.org/iczm).
