Scientific computing

The computing science group is involved in using and developing algorithms and methods that perform complex calculation problems with the aid of modern computer technology.

This is based on disciplines including mathematics, numerical methods, software engineering, modelling, simulations, and visualisation techniques within the framework of present technology. An important part of the work is development of computational algorithms that exploit parallel computer architectures.

The subject is interdisciplinary, and is driven largely by the needs materials science.
The research activity includes both industrial projects and pure academic studies.
