Urban Water Engineering

Research in water and wastewater treatment focuses on knowledge building around water and sewage with starting points in sustainability and wise use of resources.

Quantity and quality issues relating to storm water, snow run-off, wastewater and drinking water in various stages of treatment are looked into.

Issues regarding climate impact on water and wastewater systems are essential, as is the quest for further areas of application of the knowledge gained in our subject.

Our research interest concentrates on urban water systems - quality, treatment, transport and management. Our vision is to support the development of a sustainable urban water management system with our research outcomes. Our main focuses are:

  • Snow and stormwater quality and treatment
  • Adaptation of urban water systems to climate change
  • Sewer system
  • Waste water treatment in small scale facilities

The research group is led by Prof. Maria Viklander.
