Caroline Wamala är doktorand vid avdelningen, med en examen från mastersprogrammet "Science, technology and society" vid Linköpings universitet i bakfickan. Under studierna valde hon att specialisera sig inom "Technology and Gender". Hon har en bakgrund inom IT-branschen, och har bland annat arbetat med att undervisa kvinnor om IT-applikationer inom ramen för en frivilligorganisation (NGO).

Så här skriver Caroline själv om sig och sin forskning:

As a gender and technology doctoral student I aspire to contributing to the existing research on the empowerment of women in Africa through technology. This desire stems from personal experiences and observations that have led to a career change from that of a former accounting graduate to gender, technology, development studies. I completed the European, Society Science and technology (ESST) masters degree at Linköping University with a specialisation in gender and technology and it was my desire to pursue doctoral studies in the same field. Originally from Uganda, I have grown up in Botswana, Swaziland, and South Africa, and the cultural experiences from these countries have shaped the person I am today.
