VR medel för modellering och avancerat mikroskopi av vattenföroreningar

Aji Mathews, biträdande professor vid Trä och Bionanokompositer har fått beviljat medel från VR för modellering och avancerat mikroskopi av vattenföroreningar. Beskrivning av projekt är på engelska.

The aim of the project is to evaluate and predict the efficiency of water purification using native nanocellulose and nanochitin by understanding their surface characteristics, adsorption capabilities and/or specific interactions with external entities like heavy metal ions, pesticides and dyes via hydrogen bonding, surface functional groups, electrostatic interactions or physical interactions. The aim is to predict properties that will guide the experimental work and also support the experiments characterizations using Atomic Force Microscopy, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, IR/Raman-, and NMR- Spectroscopy. The know-how gained in this project on how the nanoparticle surface interacts/ reacts with water contaminants are expected to enable the tailoring of high performance biobased water cleaning membranes or filters efficiently and economically.
