Won competition for best presentation at the Marcus Wallenberg Prize

Published: 21 December 2018

Jiayuan Wei, PhD student in Wood and Bionanocomposites at Luleå University of Technology, won the competition for the best three-minute presentation at the Marcus Wallenberg Prize.

The formula for winning the competition was based on explaining the research on electrodes made of lignin by making a connection to lithium-ion batteries used in phones and computers.

– Both supercapacitors and lithium ion batteries are energy storage devices. By making the connection I believe I did not push my audience out of their comfort zone, says Jiayuan Wei in a news article at the Marcus Wallenberg Prize website.

30 PhD students from five countries participated in the competition and in addition to the honour, Jiayuan Wei won a prize of 5000 SEK.
