Structural Composites

The Structural composite group work on expanding the range of application of polymer composites and energy saving by lightweight design in a lifecycle perspective.

Today's challenges to for polymer composites lie in expanding the range of application which means addressing the performance-cost efficiency of high performance composites and  the added functionality possible with composites.

The group's research covers the whole research chain including compatibility such as the surface chemistry and nano-technology supported compatibility optimization, processing using fluid-mechanics based impregnation methods and mathematical process simulation, characteriazation with experimental composite characterization and development of multiscale material models and structural analysis and design using  material models for implementation in FE codes.

The dominant industrial application of these materials lie in aerospace, marine, power and automotive applications.  

Working in the group in particular are Swerea Sicomp and the Polymeric Composite Materials group
