Biocomposites Group

Developing the next-generation of renewable lightweight composites structural applications

With the growing interest in sustainable materials, biocomposites are becoming more widely a focus of research and development.   The basis of the work done by the biocomposite group is in taking these materials to the next level of performance in terms of durability and mechanical performance as well as dealing with the crucial issues involved in efficient manufacturing processes.

The group has a long experience in natural materials and composites. A key part of this work is focused on the structure-properties relations with experiment,  mechanics and modeling of biobased materials.   This work is  fundamental to developing the next generation renewable composites. The work is supported by the excellent laboratory facilities available to the group.

The dominant industrial applications of these materials lie in the transport, building and furniture applications. The collaboration team from the LTU, SICOMP and industry that work on the various projects include:

Wood and bionanocomposites,  Volvo Truck,
Polymeric Composite Materials,  Processum
Experimental Mechanics   Lindbäcks Bygg
Building Engineering,
Fluid Mechanics
Biochemical and Chemical Engineering
