The digitized society means that information technology in the form of infrastructures, systems, mobile solutions, and sensors communicates with each other in order to streamline information management for both commercial actors and citizens.

The digitized society implies increased need for information availability which is a challenge for security in systems, technology and communication. Cyber attacks, data breach, data tide and personal integrity are areas where more knowledge about vulnerability and protection needs are needed.

The Centre of Excellence Centre for Critical Infrastructure and Societal Security has two areas of focus; technical security and information security. This combination makes the center unique in its kind. Technologies that are developed can be applied in several areas, such as security against organized crime, the energy sector and the public sector.
