5G installed at Luleå University of Technology

Published: 29 April 2019

The 5G is now, 30th of April, 2019, installed on Luleå University of Technology campus in Luleå. We are soon ready to begin the tests and experiments via the project Wireless Innovation Arena and the 5G test bed 5G Innovation Hub North.

The Wireless Innovation Arena project focuses on the industry for wireless communication in Upper Norrland where parties together with users create innovative services based on new technology. Together with academia, institutes, large companies, the public sector and end-users, we will develop competence and competitive products and services. This will primarily be done in the area of wireless communication, specifically 5G, which is an important enabler for the internet of things to reach its full potential.
Luleå University of Technology (LTU) and its Center for Distance-spanning Technology (CDT) is project owner. The project is run together with Ericsson, Telia and Tieto, and the financiers are the European Regional Development Fund, Region Norrbotten and Luleå municipality.

An important part of the project is the 5G test environment named 5G Innovation Hub North which is in collaboration with Telia. There companies should be able to easily perform different types of tests and experiments to validate new products and services. We now welcome companies to the 5G test environment where we can contribute with support, advice and validation in the development of new offers as well as research collaboration and collaborations between the university and the research institute RISE.
