Genovate toolkit, developed within the EU project Genovate, is about how gender and diversity conscious innovation systems are created. Such processes begin with context specific identification tools, followed by a common understanding and end with the creation of a plan for change. Different methods and tools can be used during the process and some of them are specified in the toolkit. Since people, organizations and projects have different needs, a predefined process would not have any major effect.
– The first step is therefore to determine which strategy is best for the current situation. Each project is unique and every situation is special. This means that you must adapt both the process and the methods to each gender and diversity process that you take on, says Paula Wennberg, Project Manager for Gender Contact Point, a project in which the toolkit has been used.
The purpose of the Gender Contact Point project is to create an innovative collaboration environment for practical gender integration and to develop tools to accomplish that together with local IT companies. Since several participating companies in Gender Contact Point really need the toolbox, it has now been made more accessible; partly through a web-enabled version and partly by being translated into Swedish.
– The translation into Swedish is expected to increase the use. For example, the toolkit is now available through the FUI Data Center Project. The purpose of this project is to support and promote growth in SME's that work with the development of green resource-efficient data centers and cloud products and services, says Jan-Olov Johansson, project manager for FUI Datacenter in Norrbotten.
The tools have also been implemented in other contexts, for example at Luleå University of Technology in various projects with researchers, companies and in undergraduate education. Even at a regional, national and European level, the toolkit has been widely disseminated. In addition to Paula Wennberg, Ylva Fältholm and Åsa Wikberg Nilsson are also editors of Genovate.
