Functionalized additive manufactured hot forming tools (FAMTool)
The project aims to develop additive manufactured (AM) hot forming tools with so-called functionalized surfaces, ie. surfaces that have other properties regarding chemical composition, mechanical properties etc. compared to the base material of the tool (tool steel). The project will help to develop industrial applications for additive manufacturing of hot forming tools. An important part is the transfer of knowledge to industry stakeholders regarding the design and optimization of hot forming tools manufactured by AM with optimized mechanical and tribological properties as well as methodology for surface preparation / modification of AM tool material. The project partners cover an entire value chain from raw materials, through tool manufacturing, to end users / process owners, which are supplemented by academic research.
