Analysis of Excavation Damage, Rock Mass Characterisation and Rock Support Design using Drilling Monitoring

Yesterday Jeroen van Eldert successfully defended his thesis "Analysis of Excavation Damage, Rock Mass Characterization and Rock Support Design using Drilling Monitoring". His supervisors are Prof. Hakan Schunnesson, Associate Professor Daniel Johansson and David Saiang at LTU.

After an introduction from chairman Prof. Håkan Schunnesson, Jeroen took the floor and summarized his research that has been carried out mainly within the BeFo project "Blasting damage indication with MWD data.

Later the external examiner Dr Thomas Dalmalm, Senior specialist Rock Engineering at Swedish Transport Administration took over and discussed the research and findings done by the candidate. The discussions were very fruitful and interesting both from a scientific and an applied perspective.

The thesis includes a summary with 5 appended papers (4 conference articles and 1 journal article submitted to a scientific journal). It can be downloaded here:
