Blasting Damages - Field testing in Stockholm

Published: 15 June 2015

During week 24 (8th to 12th of June) Jeroen van Eldert and Henrik Ittner worked on a diamond coring for sampling in Veidekke’s underground garbage collection project in central Stockholm. During the week concrete drills were used for sample collection.

The purpose of the sampling program is to use the drill core samples to determine the basting damage based on sample tests.  This data is correlated with MWD (Measure While Drilling) data recordings from the drill rig, in other to predict blasting damage base on geological, rock type, and geotechnical, fractures and rock hardness, parameters.

During this field work MWD data was used to select the diamond drill locations. In total eight drill holes were made between 1.0 and 1.9 meters in depth. Besides the core samples GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) data was collected to determine the EDZ (Excavation Damage Zone).

The collected data will be analyzed and compared together with the surveys and the geological interpretation of the tunnel. The analysis will take place over the summer of 2015.
