These systems are often connected to the Internet  embedded Internet systems. You will get knowledge on how to use optoelectronic or ultrasonic measurement methods in the project courses that form an integral part of the curricula.\n\nSIGNALS AND SYSTEMS\nThe specialization in Signals and Systems will give you tools and methods for modeling of physical processes, coding of speech and data, image processing, information transfer, encryption, modulation etc. The area of Signals and Systems is important within for instance control of an industrial process where information is used both from measurements of process variables as well as knowledge on how the process is modeled. Mathematical modeling of the process that is controlled and dimensioning criterias for the systems controlling the process are central parts of the curricula for the Signals and Systems specialization.\n\nMECHATRONICS\nThis specialization is unique since it is an elective for several programs in Luleå. You will study together with students with other background than your own which will broaden your knowledge in the field of Mechatronics. Graduates from the program can be found working as key-persons in small innovative companies as well as experts in large multinational companies. Examples of possible duties are to develop Internet based measurement, control or communication systems, advanced navigation systems, intelligent sports equipment, autonomous robots, measurement technologies for the industry and mechatronic systems for cars and other vehicles. In the end of the program you will get in contact with the research that is performed at the Department of CS & EE. The areas of Embedded Internet Systems, Signal Processing, Sensor Systems, Control Theory and Mechatronics are areas which you will encounter during your studies. This will give you a broad knowledge base and you will have opportunities to deepen your knowledge in any of these fields. There are also opportunities to make part of your education at any of LTUs partner Universities. As an example there is a well established cooperation with Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. We also have a close cooperation with several companies which gives opportunities for you to do project courses where the industrial partners are involved in the course.\n\nDuring your first year you will study a lot of mathematics to get a good basis for the rest of your studies. You will also study physics and computer programming. In the second year your studies will include basic courses in electronics, signal processing, control theory and more mathematics.
