Cross-country skiing, biathlon and ski orienteering

Published: 28 November 2019

Are you accepted as an elite sports student and practicing cross-country skiing, biathlon or ski orienteering? With our elite environment for skiiing, starting in August 2020, we want to help you to reach the next level in your sport.

The surroundings of Luleå University of Technology offer fantastic conditions for skiing. From our four campuses we have proximity to several high-quality ski resorts in Luleå, Piteå, Boden, Skellefteå and Kiruna. Some of them have roller ski tracks, biathlon shooting ranges, artificial snow facilities for early snow guarantee – all have excellent conditions for early natural snow. The region has cold climate, good communications to inland and mountains and also to other parts of Sweden. The University's research in health science, physical therapy, snow and ice contributes to a stimulating and developing environment.

With our elite environment for skiing, we give you the conditions to take the next step in your sport, in parallel with your university studies.

How can you become an elite sports student?

  • You must be active in a sport connected to the Swedish National Sports Federation (RF).
  • You must fulfill the requirements that RF has set: you must be "a potential or current national team athlete (senior or junior)" or "a player in the highest league in team sports". It is every special sports association that assesses whether you meet the requirements.
  • You must also be admitted to an education at Luleå University of Technology. You apply and are accepted into education under the same conditions as all other prospective students.
  • In addition, Luleå University of Technology also offers individual athletes at national championship level (as lowest) and team athletes in the second highest division an opportunity to sign an elite sports contract directly with the university. More information on this here.
