In order to meet the general entry requirements for first cycle studies you must have successfully completed upper secondary education and documented skills in English language + Swedish upper secondary school courses Mathematics 2a or 2b or 2c, Social Studies 1b or 1a1+1a2.

Selection

The selection is based on final school grades or Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test.



Course Aim
The course aims at giving the student the opportunity to actively obtain basic knowledge about applied systematic Occupational Health and Safety Management (OHSM).

A student that has passed the course shall have learned:

  • basic legislation regarding systematic OHSM,
  • the most important components in systematic OHSM,
  • how to survey and analyze systematic OHSM systems,
  • how to design concrete and realistic proposals for improved systematic OHSM, especially regarding psycho social work environment and ergonomics,
  • how to write and report basic information and facts for decision making regarding OHSM systems.

Contents
The course deals with systematic occupational health and safety management, based on laws and regulations. Focus is on psycho social work environment. Consequences of poor working conditions, such as muscelo skeletal disorders, stress and abusive treatment, abuse, threats and violence and how these consequences can be prevented by means of systematic occupational health and safety management. The students shall, in groups of about 4 students, map and analyse a real business/company. Depending on the results from the analysis the students shall suggest and specify improvements in the business/company’s existing management system for the work environment.

Each course occasion´s language and form is stated and appear on the course page on Luleå University of Technology's website.
Lectures, lessons and practices, independent field studies at project companies. Group work and co-operation with companies, authorities and organisations. Review of performed examination task.

Examination
If there is a decision on special educational support, in accordance with the Guideline Student's rights and obligations at Luleå University of Technology, an adapted or alternative form of examination can be provided.

Review of performed examination task.For a passed mark the student needs to perform a passed project work, a passed presentation of the examination task and a passed project report. Presentations shall be made both for companies/organisations as well for the students that are attending the course and the course examiner. Attendance at seminars and presentations is compulsory.

Remarks
Students must register for the courses themselves, or contact ETKS educational administration eduetks@ltu.se, not later than three days after the quarter commences. Failure to do so can result in the place being lost. This rule also applies to students with a guaranteed place.
