In order to meet the general entry requirements for first cycle studies you must have successfully completed upper secondary education and documented skills in English language + Swedish upper secondary school courses Mathematics 2a/2b/2c , General Science 2, Social Studies 1b/1a1 +1a2 (specifik entry A14). Or: Swedish upper secondary school courses Mathematics B, General Science B, Social Studies A (specifik entry 16)

The selection is based on final school grades or Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test.

Course Aim
Upon completion of the course, the student will, in the context of current laws and regulations, and with a scientific and ethical approach, meet the following objectives related to the course content:
  1. Describe different educational approaches
  2. Explain how different communication theories can be applied in learning situations that occur in occupational therapy activities
  3. Describe how occupational therapists can support individuals/groups in a process of change based on different educational approaches and communication theories

The course contains basic knowledge about different educational approaches, theories of communication and educational methods as well as how they can be applied in the profession.

Each course occasion´s language and form is stated and appear on the course page on Luleå University of Technology's website.
The course is in a distance learning format and is mainly web-based. Computer experience and access to an Internet connection equivalent to at least ADSL with headset and web camera are required for the studies. Parts of the course are located on campus where practical exercises, seminars and examinations take place. In order to complete the course, the student should actively seek knowledge and solve problems using an inquiring and critically reflective approach. This means that the student should take responsibility by actively contributing to the achievement of course objectives through the planning of content and time. The contents of the course are delivered through literature studies, group exercises, field studies, lectures, oral and written presentations and seminars. Course requirements are completed study assignments and compulsory attendance and an active participation in discussions at seminars. Compulsory attendance at practical exercises.

If there is a decision on special educational support, in accordance with the Guideline Student's rights and obligations at Luleå University of Technology, an adapted or alternative form of examination can be provided.
To pass the course, it is required that the student achieves the course objectives by the following examination sections:
  • Objectives one, two and three are examined through written report and oral presentation and group discussion at seminar 

Grading criteria for Pass and Pass with distinction are stated in the study guide.

This is a first-cycle course. Passing this course fulfills specific entry requirements for placement courses. Study guide is provided in the course room in Canvas.
