The student acquires knowledge of mainternance of digital repositories. This includes preservation strategies, as well as organisation of repositories and planning of preservation activities.
The course covers and discusses
several implementations of digital repositories (e.g. dSpace, Greenstone, …),
as well as organisation and maintenance of such repositories. The student acquires
understanding of different preservation strategies, such as migration and
emulation, and how different content types may influence the choice of
strategies. The student also acquires knowledge on management of digital
repositories, and how this influence preservation strategies, or vice versa. At
the end of the course, the student will be able to suggest preservation
strategies, and organisation of repositories for different types of
institutions.
