Course Aim
After the course the students should have knowledge of how to execute a medium large graphic design project in both theory and practice. The students should be able to clearly communicate a message visually and have the practical knowledge required to produce print design..

The course has both a theoretical and a applied practical part. The following subjects are dealt with:
  • The narrative image
  • Color theory
  • Typography
  • Graphic design.

Each course occasion´s language and form is stated and appear on the course page on Luleå University of Technology's website.
The main subjects are given as lectures and then applied in practical exercises which are presented by the students to the class. The presentations are used as the basis for discussions around the viability and effectiveness of different ways of communication and story telling. The main assignment is always a medium large applied design project, which includes the main subjects image, color, form and typography. Included in the main assignment is a theoretical part where the students write a design brief for the practical part of the assignment. The design brief includes a problem description, a description of the design objective, a definition of the target demographic and a course of action. The main assignment is presented in front of the class.The course requires that a substantial amount of time is used on the assignments outside of class.

If there is a decision on special educational support, in accordance with the Guideline Student's rights and obligations at Luleå University of Technology, an adapted or alternative form of examination can be provided.
The course is graded with U, 3, 4 to 5. For a passed mark the student need to attend the presentations and complete the exercises and final assignment.

Students must register for the courses themselves, or contact ETKS educational administration, not later than two days after the quarter commences. Failure to do so can result in the place being lost. This rule also applies to students with a guaranteed place.
