In order to meet the general entry requirements for first cycle studies you must have successfully completed upper secondary education and documented skills in English language + Swedish upper secondary school course English 6.

The selection is based on final school grades or Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test.



Course Aim

After finishing the course, the student will have

  • gained a basic understanding of creative writing as a craft, narratology and literary devices;
  • developed basic creative writing skills;
  •  increased his/her overall level of proficiency in English;
  • developed the necessary toolkits to analyse and improve his/her own fictional texts and constructively comment on those of other students. 

Contents

This is an introductory course to creative writing in English. The course aims to develop the student not only as an imaginative writer, but also as a user of English. To support the student’s development, there will be in-class writing activities based on analysis of example texts and student-produced materials. Throughout the course, the student will be asked to submit a number of written assignments, consisting of short stories, poetry and a synopsis. In preparation for these assignments, the student will have the opportunity to engage in various writing and literary exercises. The written assignments will, moreover, be reviewed orally during seminars and workshops, allowing the student to practise presenting his/her work to others and develop skills in receiving and providing feedback.
