In order to meet the general entry requirements for first cycle studies you must have successfully completed upper secondary education and documented skills in English language and English 1, 30 credits

The selection is based on 1-165 credits.

Course Aim

  After having completed this course, the student should be able to:

·       produce texts in accordance with conventions for academic writing in English

·       demonstrate basic knowledge of literary history from the Renaissance to the mid-1900s

·       read and analyse literary texts from a cultural and historical perspective

·       analyse the relationship between language and society and how this is manifested in language use

·       understand how the analysis of large amounts of text can illuminate language use from a societal perspective

·       display basic knowledge of the history of the English language

·       show a basic understanding of the connections between language, cognition and semantics
