Course Aim
After completing this course the student should be able to:
- explain the basics and structure of Swedish environmental legislation
- explain basic concepts and basic principles of environmental law
- identify, structure and solve basic legal issues in the field of environmental law
- explain the basics of international environmental law and EC environmental law.

The course begins with an introduction to jurisprudence from an environmental law perspective.Thereafter the Environmental Code and other relevant environmental legislation, including inter alia legal protection against pollution and other disturbances, the damage to biodiversity and other natural environmental values, the legal control of chemicals and waste management, use and management of land, natural resources and energy is examined. The course focuses on Swedish environmental law. It gives an overview of international environmental law and EC environmental law.

The course includes lectures and exercises in solving legal problems. The student should prepare each lecture and exercise by studying certain material and questions. At exercises the students will orally present their proposed solutions, and meet and discuss other students suggestions. Preparations should as far as possible be conducted in groups.

The student shall indicate that he or she meets the objectives of the course in a written exam at the end of the course. This means that the student must demonstrate that he or she can explain the basics of Swedish environmental law, international environmental law and EC environmental law, explain basic concepts and principles in environmental law and propose solutions to basic legal issues in environmental law, in a structured and correct manner.

Students must register for the courses themselves, or contact ETS educational administration,not later than three days after the quarter commences. Failure to do so can result in the place being lost. This rule also applies to students with a guaranteed place.
