Entry requirements

In order to meet the general entry requirements for first cycle studies you must have successfully completed upper secondary education and documented skills in English language and completed the course Legal introduction course (J0046N) 15 credits with at least a passing grade, or equivalent.

Course Aim
The aim of the course is: To give fundamental knowledge of family law Provide training in judicial methodology and argumentation

Marriage law deals with the regulations of marriage, property rights between spouses, common-law relationships, and partnerships, division of joint property with divorce and death, division of joint property under existing marriages, and possibilities by means of contract to influence the internal legal conditions, support obligations, etc. Succession law focuses on the legal order of succession, specifically the surviving spouse’s right to inheritance in relation to other claimants. Furthermore heirs’ share in the legacy and secured rights to inheritance as well as advances in inheritance are covered. Parental law deals with paternity, child support obligations, custody, and visitation rights with parents and others. Questions of guardianship and society’s possibilities to, through social services and support from the Child Care Act, provide child care with and without parental consent, are also studied.

Instruction consists of lectures, group exercises and seminars.

If there is a decision on special educational support, in accordance with the Guideline Student's rights and obligations at Luleå University of Technology, an adapted or alternative form of examination can be provided.
Written exam at the end of the course. The instructor may decide on alternative forms of examination. Grading: Pass with honors, Pass, or Fail.

Students must register for the courses themselves or contact ETS educational administration not later than three days after the quarter commences. Failure to do so can result in the place being lost. This rule also applies to students with a guaranteed place.
