Course Aim
The aims of the course are
- to give deeper knowledge and skills in some central mathematical theories and concepts and practical training in independent work in mathematics,
- to give the basis for further studies in mathematics, both in the form of courses and in the form of independent studies in mathematics in subjects where knowledge in mathematics is used,
- to give a deeper insight in such areas of mathematics that are needed for independent application of mathematical tool,
- to give such deeper knowledge that promotes the teaching and learning of mathematics in secondary schools (gymnasium).

For a deeper study a topic for the special examination work is chosen. For example: linear algebra, mechanical systems, variational calculus, stochastic processes, ergodic theory and information theory, history of mathematics, didactics of mathematics.

The topic should be chosen in cooperation with the examinator.
M0037M or a corresponding course should be passed before the work with the essay is begun. The essay shall be presented at a seminar.

The course is a subcourse of M0034M.
