In order to meet the general entry requirements for first cycle studies you must have successfully completed upper secondary education and documented skills in English language and Basic anatomy and physiology (M0031H)

Selection

The selection is based on 1-165 credits.



Course Aim
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
  • describe aetiology, epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnostics, treatment, complications and prognosis in commonly occurring neurological, psychiatric, geriatric and child neurological conditions
  • give an account of brain structures and functions, perception and memory functions
  • describe the significance of age and gender for illness and treatment
  • place his knowledge in a larger social context and medical public health perspective in order to be able to participate in health promotion work
  • apply basic hygiene procedures in his/her professional role
  • evaluate his/her knowledge and need for knowledge development in respective areas
This knowledge constitutes a basis for coming courses and is a precondition for working as occupational therapist.

Realization
Tuition methods vary with self-study, individual or group work and lectures. As support for individual studies, the student is offered lectures and resource time via distance-bridging technology in LTU's LMS-system Canvas. The studies are carried out by means of detailed objectives and instructions as presented in the study guide. Seminars and laboratory sessions are compulsory.

Examination
The learning outcomes are examined according to the set of tests below. Examinations test knowledge relevant to the future profession. At seminars, the student should demonstrate his/her ability to apply theoretical knowledge of diseases in realistic health care situations. Alternative examination forms may be used.

Remarks
This is a first-cycle course. Study supervision is provided in the course room in Canvas. Passing this course constitutes specific entry requirements for placement courses.
