Entry requirements

The selection is based on 1-165 credits.



Course Aim
The course intends to increase the students' ability to handle situations where acutely ill/injured individuals are involved and to increase the students' knowledge and understanding of the organisation of acute healthcare and the importance of cooperation between different professions. On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
  • Evaluate an acutely ill patient and consider primary measures and be able to discuss prioritising of patients.
  • Show the ability to inform, communicate and take care of acutely ill patients and their relatives in a professional way.
  • Be able to discuss diagnostic radiology and methodology in frequently occurring acute pathologies.
  • Show the ability to carry out frequently occurring acute radiography examinations.
  • Reflect on his/her own and others' actions and identify areas of improvement in radiology.
  •  Explain according to which principles children should be taken care of in radiography examinations.
  • Take care of an apparently unresponsive individual in an appropriate way with specialization in children.
  • Carry out pharmaceutical calculation

Contents
  • Treatment of commonly occurring acute diseases and radiological examinations of these
  • Basic nursing in intensive and emergency care
  • Nursing interventions and medically indicated measures in connection with acute diseases
  • Organisation and cross-professional cooperation in emergency care, intensive care and acute radiography
  • Children in X-ray
  • Child CPR
  •  Work placement with focus on acute radiography
  • Pharmaceutical calculation

Realization
The course offers introductory lectures in the different parts to achieve the course objectives. The lectures take place on campus or via the distance-bridging technology. The course contains compulsory laboratory sessions and seminars. The students also acquire knowledge and practise to achieve the learning objectives via the work placement. Via the assessment interview, the student may practice self-evaluation and evaluation of his/her knowledge and needs of further knowledge.

The content of course elements and its teaching methods specifically geared towards radiology nursing profession.

Examination
The aims of the course and the students' professional competence are examined and assessed through the evaluation interview in the work placement but also through seminars and laboratory sessions within emergency care and acute diagnostic imaging. The more theoretical aims are examined through a digital examination. Alternative examination formats may be used. Only one re-examination/transfer is given for the course in relation to the placement. If there are special circumstances, additional retakes/transfers can be granted. Special circumstances are those stated in Regulations of the National Agency for Higher Education HSVFS 1999:1.

Remarks
This is a first-cycle course and it includes work placement. Special jurisdiction means that all professional courses are to have the course grade. Requirements for special eligibility must be met no later than the exam period in study period 4, i.e., the nearest previous study period.

This course, with clinical placement are subject to Special rules regarding clinical placement according to Head of Department decision.
