In order to meet the general entry requirements for first cycle studies you must have successfully completed upper secondary education and documented skills in English language and Basic knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology (M0024H/M0080H, M0025H/M0077H)

The selection is based on 1-165 credits.



Course Aim
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
  • Give an account of etiology, epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnostics, treatment, complications and prognosis in commonly occurring internal medicine, surgical  (including oncology)and orthopaedic diseases.
  • Describe the significance of age and gender for illness and treatment
  • Place his knowledge in a larger social context and medical public health perspective in order to be able to participate in health promotion work
  • Carry out and apply basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use a semi-automatic defibrillator.
  • The value of his knowledge and the need for skills development in respective areas

This knowledge provides a basis for future courses and is a prerequisite for being able to work as a physiotherapist.

Realization
Tuition methods vary with self-study, individual or group work and lectures. The studies are carried out by means of detailed aims and instructions as presented in the study guide. As a support for self-study, materials and a discussion forum are provided through LTU's LMS system, Canvas. Seminars and laboratory sessions are compulsory.

Examination
The learning outcomes are examined according to the test set below. Examinations test knowledge relevant to the future profession. At seminars, the student should demonstrate his/her ability to apply a theoretical knowledge of diseases in realistic health care situations. Alternative examination forms may occur.

Remarks
This is a first-cycle course. Study supervision is provided in the course room in Canvas. A pass in this course is a prerequisite for Work Placement.
