Entry requirements

In order to meet the general entry requirements for first cycle studies you must have successfully completed upper secondary education and documented skills in English language + Swedish upper secondary school courses Mathematics 2a/2b/2c , General Science 2, Social Studies 1b/1a1 +1a2 (specifik entry A14). Or: Swedish upper secondary school courses Mathematics B, General Science B, Social Studies A (specifik entry 16)

Selection

The selection is based on final school grades or Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test.



Course Aim
On completion of the course, the student should be able to: Describe aetiology, pathophysiology, diagnostics, treatment and prognosis for the most commonly occurring diseases in the course. Special focus will be given to endemic and lifestyle diseases and conditions that are especially interesting, sensitive or subject to substantial interest in society. This knowledge constitutes a basis for future placement and career-specific courses and is of importance to enable good and patient safe care in the future career as a registered nurse.

  • The diseases of the gastrointestinal canal
  • Pharmacology of the autonomous nervous system
  • Clinical chemistry including blood diseases
  • Pharmacological pain treatment

Realization
The course is designed for a future work as a registered nurse. Learning takes place in the form of lectures, literature studies, medical simulation and laboratory sessions. In all forms of tuition, support and promotion of the student's independent acquisition of knowledge are emphasised as well as the teacher's role as a guide in this context.

Examination
The contents are examined in the form of an individual written examination and medical simulation. The written exam questions are formulated in such a way that the student's ability to apply his/her knowledge in real health care situations is tested. Alternative examination forms may occur.

Remarks
This is a first-cycle course. Study supervision is provided in the course room in Canvas. Passing this course constitutes a specific entry requirement for placement courses.
